US sauna & cold plunge data
What 548 hand-checked recovery venues across 23 US cities publish about their own prices, temperatures, and layouts — recomputed from our listings on every build. Free to quote with a link; the citation block is at the bottom.
Figures last checked Aug 26, 2026.
These figures describe our coverage, not the whole US market. They summarise the venues we have individually checked in the metros we cover — not an estimate of how many sauna or cold plunge venues exist in the country. Quote them as "of N venues checked", and they will survive an editor.

The quotable numbers
- 63% of the venues we track can actually run contrast therapy. 344 of 548 have both cold immersion and a heat source on the same site — which is what the term requires. The rest offer one side of it, or neither.
- The median walk-in session costs $45. Computed from the 195 venues (of 548) that publish a drop-in or day-pass rate at all — the rest sell memberships or publish nothing, which we count as unknown rather than zero. The median monthly membership, where one is published, is $150 (178 venues).
- The typical published plunge bottoms out at 42°F; the typical sauna tops out at 190°F. Medians of the low end of 57 published plunge ranges and the high end of 50 published sauna ranges. Most venues publish neither — temperature is the least-published fact in the industry, which is why we record it.
- The extremes: 33°F water and 231°F air. The coldest published plunge we track is RVIVL (Playa Vista); the hottest published sauna is Wi Spa (Los Angeles). Both figures come from the venues' own pages, dated.
- Private suites are a 19% minority. 103 venues sell a private room, 140 run a communal floor, 26 offer both, and 279 do not state their layout at all. Whether you share the room is the biggest unstated variable in what a session feels like.
- Of our covered cities, Tampa has the lowest median walk-in price ($30) and Phoenix the highest ($69). Only cities with at least 5 published prices are ranked; the per-city table below carries every denominator.

How this was compiled
Every underlying figure comes from a venue's own website, booking platform, or published FAQ, read directly and dated — most carry a verbatim quote from the page they came from. Nothing is taken from review sites, aggregators, or search summaries, and no figure is carried across locations of the same brand, because franchise locations routinely price differently. Where a venue publishes nothing, it is counted as unpublished rather than estimated, which is why every median on this page states its denominator.
Verification dates across the dataset run from Jul 27, 2026 to Aug 26, 2026. The full record — every venue with address, coordinates, modalities, temperatures, pricing, and its check date — is published as a JSON feed under CC BY 4.0, documented on the API page. Our standards for what gets published at all are on the verification page and the editorial policy.
